Deutsche Grammophon releases La clemenza di Tito
On July 6, Deutsche Grammophon releases a new recording of La clemenza di Tito featuring Rolando Villazón in the title role of Roman Emperor Tito Vespasiano. Rolando is joined by a world-class cast, including Marina Rebeka (Vitellia), Joyce DiDonato (Sesto), Regula Mühlemann (Servillia), Tara Erraught (Annio), and Adam Plachetka (Publio). The album marks the fifth installment of the Mozart Cycle, an ongoing collaboration between conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin and Rolando Villazón.
A tale of revenge, political intrigue, jealousy, and ultimately, forgiveness, Mozart’s opera recounts the story of the Roman Emperor Tito, who must set aside personal and political grievances for the sake of friendship and peace. Caught in a dangerous web of political intrigue, Tito chooses forgiveness and peace above all else.
Rolando discusses the project, noting, “Mozart’s music is just incredible–it reflects just exactly what we all have in our souls. Mozart is the best friend of humanity.”
