Deutsche Grammophon releases Le nozze di Figaro, latest installment in Villazón–Nézet-Séguin Mozart Cycle
With previous recordings of Don Giovanni and Così fan tutte released in recent years to wide acclaim (alongside 2015’s Grammy-nominated Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Deutsche Grammophon completes the Mozart-Da Ponte trio of operas featured in its Mozart Cycle with today’s launch of Le nozze di Figaro. The recording features Rolando Villazón in his role debut as Don Basilio.
Presented as part of Rolando and conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin’s cycle of Mozart’s seven mature operas, Le nozze di Figaro was captured live in 2015 at Festspielhaus Baden-Baden. The all-star cast of soloists includes Luca Pisaroni in the title role, Christiane Karg as Susanna, Thomas Hampson and Sonya Yoncheva as Count and Countess Almaviva, Angela Brower as Cherubino, Anne Sofie von Otter as Marcellina, and Maurizio Muraro as Dr. Bartolo. Maestro Nézet-Séguin leads the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, which has also been heard on the previous installments of the Mozart Cycle.
