Domingo Gala and Role Debut at Salzburg Festival
July and August bring Rolando Villazón back to the Salzburg Festival for two celebrations: The 40th anniversary of Plácido Domingo’s stage debut with the Festival, and Rolando’s debut in the role of Pylade in Iphigénie en Tauride.
Rolando joins an all-star cast to celebrate the legendary Domingo’s four decades in Salzburg on July 30, appearing alongside Maria Agresta, Ana María Martínez, Krassimira Stoyanova, and Domingo himself under the baton of Gianandrea Noseda.
Later in August, Rolando opens a revival of Gluck’s Greek tragedy co-directed by Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier originally for this year’s Salzburg Whitsun Festival. With conductor Diego Fasolis, Rolando stars opposite Cecilia Bartoli in the title role and recent Don Giovannicostar Christopher Maltman as Oreste. Iphigénie en Tauride opensAugust 19 with performances continuing through August 28.
