On Christmas Eve, December 24, RAI and Servus TV broadcast “Weihnachten mit Rolando Villazón,” which sees the tenor performing carols in Oberndorf bei Salzburg’s Stille-Nacht-Kapelle and the Wallfahrtskirche Maria Bühel with the Salzburger Festspiele und Theater Kinderchor. The tenor sings favorite songs of the season, including “Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht”, which was originated in the Oberndorf chapel.
On December 25, Rolando hosts and presents “Der Heilige und der Papst – Rolando Villazón auf den Spuren von Franziskus.” On Christmas Day, right after Pope Francis delivers his Urbi et obi address, the program embarks on a journey from Rome to Assisi, home of the Pontiff’s namesake. Following the footsteps of St. Francis of Assisi, Rolando meets musicians, politicians, refugees and people of faith committed to and inspired by the religious figure’s principles, and explores the contemporary resonances of poverty and migration.
