Il Re Pastore in Zurich heralded as “Picture-perfect Mozart”

Rolando’s performance as Alessandro, the king of Macedonia, in Mozart’s rarely performed gem Il Re Pastore at the Zurich Opernhaus is being hailed as “picture-perfect Mozart” by DeutschlandRadio. The reviewer goes on to say, “Rolando Villazon is the star on stage… The Italianate timbre of his lyric tenor gives a dark colour to the great Alexander, which the Mexican complements with his great stage presence and a certain sense of humour.” The Tages Anzieger also proclaims, “The Mexican star has made good use of Mozart’s voice culture: he sings the royal Alexander with his baritonal, powerful tenor, especially confident in the bravura ‘Tempest’ aria. We knew, and note again, that he is a highly gifted actor.”

In other news, due to popular demand, Rolando’s new album, “La Strada – Songs from the Movies,” is being released in Germany and Austria this week.
The album is already available in the United Kingdom and is being released in Germany and Austria after a campaign by fans demanding the album be released in other countries, too.
