Le nozze di Figaro nominated for 2017 Grammy Award

This year’s installment in Rolando Villazón and Yannick Nézet-Séguin’s Mozart Cycle, Le nozze di Figaro, has been nominated for a 2017 Grammy Award in the category of Best Opera Recording.

Rolando made his role debut as Don Basilio for this recording of Mozart’s masterwork, which is included in a survey of the composer’s seven mature operas for Deutsche Grammophon. Captured live in 2015 at Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, the all-star cast of soloists includes Luca Pisaroni in the title role, Christiane Karg as Susanna, Thomas Hampson and Sonya Yoncheva as Count and Countess Almaviva, Angela Brower as Cherubino, Anne Sofie von Otter as Marcellina, and Maurizio Muraro as Dr. Bartolo.

Maestro Nézet-Séguin leads the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, which has also been heard on the previous installments of the Mozart Cycle — including last year’s Grammy-nominated recording of Die Entführung aus dem Serail.

The 59th annual Grammy Awards take place Sunday, February 12 and will be broadcast on CBS.

The Mozart Cycle is made possible through the generous support of Rolex.
