L’elisir d’amore, directed by and starring Rolando Villazón, receives ECHO Klassik Award
As was announced earlier today, Rolando Villazón’s production ofL’elisir d’amore, filmed live at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden for Deutsche Grammophon, has received a 2015 ECHO Klassik Award in the category of “DVD Recording of the Year.” Rolando’s debut as both stage director and singer, this 2012 account of Donizetti’s comedy was inspired by the cartoon character Lucky Luke and the Spaghetti Western tradition, set in a film studio in the 1930s and evoking the spirit of the Old West. The DVD and Blu-ray release also includes a special behind the scenes featurette, filmed by Friedemann Hottenbacher.
Rolando will be seen as both honoree and co-host at the ECHO Klassik Awards this year, leading the celebration of achievements in classical music by German and international artists with TV presenter Nina Eichinger on October 18 at the Konzerthaus Berlin. It will be broadcast on the same evening beginning at 10:00pm local time by ZDF.
