Mozart’s Don Giovanni available this July from Deutsche Grammophon
This July sees the release of Don Giovanni, the first installment of a new Deutsche Grammophon cycle of Mozart’s seven main operas in collaboration with Rolando Villazón, the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Universal Music Arts & Entertainment, and Rolex. This live recording of Mozart’s iconic opera features Rolando’s “round, lovely, and soothing” Don Ottavio (Die Welt) . The recording’s cast boasts the dazzling Diana Damrau as Don Ottavio’s betrothed Donna Anna, Ildebrando D’Arcangelo in the title role, Luca Pisaroni as Leporello, Joyce DiDonato as Donna Elvira, and Mojca Erdmann as Zerlina. The brilliant French-Canadian conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin leads this star-studded cast and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.
The release of Don Giovanni by Deutsche Grammophon in July coincides with Rolando’s role debut as Ferrando in the buffa masterpiece Così fan tutte at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden on July 11 and 14. These performances, led again by Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducting the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, will be recorded by Deutsche Grammophon and released in 2013.
