Rolando adds role of Don Basilio to repertoire for Mozart Cycle performance of Le nozze di Figaro

Following this month’s release of Die Entführung aus dem Serail, the third installment of his Mozart Cycle for Deutsche Grammophon, Rolando Villazón adds another of the composer’s tenor roles to his repertoire when he makes his debut as Don Basilio in Le nozze di Figaro. The acclaimed Mozartian takes on the role specifically for his cycle of Mozart’s mature-period operas with conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, performed live at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden and recorded for Deutsche Grammophon.

For two gala performances on July 16 and 19, Rolando joins an all-star cast that includes Thomas Hampson and Sonya Yoncheva as the Count and Countess Almaviva, Christiane Karg as Susanna, Angela Brower as Cherubino, Anne Sofie von Otter as Marcellina, and Luca Pisaroni in the title role.
