Rolando celebrates Mozart success in Salzburg

Rolando’s portrayal of Alessandro in Mozart’s Il re pastore has  won over Salzburg Festival audiences. The Mexico-born tenor’s interpretation of the magnanimous Alexander the Great was “a great success in the world of Mozart” (Kleine Zeitung).  “Applause, flowers for Villazón,” declares Der Standard –  “his coloratura is firmly controlled and fluid.” Die Presse also admired how “his dark tenor maneuvers the difficult coloratura that Mozart once expected of castrati.” Rolando’s spectacular portrayal of Alessandro was met “with the same penetrating power and energy that comes from the unique sound of the Zurich Opera’s Orchestra La Scintilla, thanks to William Christie’s commanding direction.”
