Rolando celebrates triumphant debut as Così fan tutte’s Ferrando

Rolando’s debut as Così fan tutte‘s Ferrando has been a tremendous success, with critics lauding this “truly exciting role debut” as a “celebration for Mozart.” Pforzheimer Zeitung raves: “Rolando Villazón makes his role debut as Ferrando, and convincingly so, as if the role had been written for him.” His “Un’aura amorosa” was a musical moment to be savored. For Badisches Tagblatt, “his tenor flourish[ed] in the long, high-lying passages” of the aria.

In case you missed these Festspielhaus Baden-Baden concerts with French-Canadian conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Deutsche Grammophon captured the performance for future release as part of the iconic label’s large-scale Mozart opera recording project; Don Giovanni, the project’s first installment, will be released internationally on September 7, 2012.
