Rolando joins Met Opera tour to Japan
Jumping in at the last minute following a cancellation on the Metropolitan Opera’s current tour to Japan, Rolando Villazón will give a one-night-only performance on June 9 in the role of Edgardo in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor at Tokyo’s Bunka Kaikan. Rolando will be joined by soprano Diana Damrau in the title role, Željko Lučić as her scheming brother Enrico, and Ildar Abdrazakov as Lucia’s chaplain and tutor, Raimondo. Gianandrea Noseda conducts. The performance marks the tenor’s first appearance with the Met since 2009 and comes on the heels of his critically acclaimed run of performances in the title role of Werther at London’s Royal Opera House at Covent Garden—which were heralded as “nothing short of magnificent” by the Daily Express—and his successful debut earlier this season at Milan’s Teatro alla Scala as Nemorino in L’Elisir d’Amore.
