Rolando receives 40-minute standing ovation for Barcelona recital
On Sunday, Rolando wowed audiences at Barcelona’s legendary Gran Teatre de Liceu in a recital of works by Mozart, Donizetti and Verdi, with the Orquesta Sinfónica del Liceo led by Guerassim Voronkov. In his review of the performance in Madrid’s ABC newspaper, Pablo Melendez-Haddad exclaimed, “[Rolando] excelled in the first part of Don Ottavio’s aria; to see him in this role must surely be a luxury, with a chance to witness his voice and his personality. “Il mio tesoro” managed to reach new heights of beauty.”
Rolando returns to London’s Royal Opera House in May to sing one of his signature roles: the title character in Massenet’s Werther. Antonio Pappano conducts the first revival of this production, whose premiere performances received rave reviews in 2004. Rolando will be joined on stage by mezzo-soprano Sophie Koch and soprano Eri Nakamura.
