Rolando returns from successful trip with the Met to Japan


Rolando’s single performance with the Metropolitan Opera during its recent tour to Japan was heralded as a success by Japanese audiences and critics alike. Droves of Japanese opera fans that came out to see the Mexican tenor’s first appearance in more than two years with one of the world’s most legendary opera companies. Following his June 9 performance as Edgardo in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, Rolando signed autographs for his Japanese fans for over an hour and then led them in an impromptu sing-along in the parking lot of Tokyo’s Bunka Kaikan.

With his last minute return to the Met finished, Rolando returned to England to continue his role as a judge and mentor on ITV’s series Popstar to Operastar. On June 12, mere days after his performance in Japan, Rolando performed “No puede ser” live on the show, which you can watch here. The following day, June 13, Rolando’s new album on Decca, “La Strada – Songs from the Movies,” was released in the UK.

Rolando continues his double duty now that he has begun rehearsals for his upcoming performances in Zurich of a new production of Mozart’s Il re pastore, which opens on July 3 at the Zurich Opernhaus.
