Rolando returns to the European stage with two Mozart operas
Back from his last-minute engagement on the Met’s Japan tour as Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor, Rolando now returns to the European operatic stage in two Mozart productions. First, he appears in a new production of the rarely-performed Il Re Pastore at the Opernhaus Zurich, which runs for just three nights on July 4, 7 & 9. Rolando plays Alessandro, the king of Macedonia, in the new Grischa Asagaroff production led by noted Mozart specialist William Christie. Soon after, Rolando makes his role debut as Don Ottavio in Mozart’s Don Giovanni in Baden-Baden on July 18, followed by two repeat performances on July 21 & 24. The opening night is also the annual gala at the Baden-Baden Festspielhaus. The starry cast, which includes Ildebrando D’Arcangelo in the title role, Luca Pisaroni as the Don’s valet Leporello, Joyce DiDonato as the spurned Donna Elvira, Diana Damrau as Don Ottavio’s bethrothed Donna Anna, and Mojca Erdmann as the sprightly Zerlina, is conducted by the rising young conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
