Rolando shines in debut as Mozart’s Lucio Silla in celebrated new production at Salzburg Mozartwoche
Last night, Rolando Villazón made his role debut as the title character of Mozart’s Lucio Silla in a new production directed by Marshall Pynkowski that inaugurated the 2013 Mozartwoche in Salzburg . The performance, conducted by Marc Minkowski at the helm of Les Musiciens du Louvre, was a triumph, with critics praising Rolando’s “utterly convincing Lucio Silla,” his “sonorous middle and lower registers, disciplined coloratura” as well as his “moving” singing and “burning emotions.” “He sang so movingly that one’s heart was deeply touched by admiration,” noted the Kurier, adding, “It was a special operatic moment.”
Can’t make it to Salzburg? ORF Radio will broadcast the performance on February 2.
