Rolando to direct and sing L’elisir d’amore in Baden-Baden

On May 28 the Baden-Baden Festspielhaus presents a new production of Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, directed by Rolando and starring the Mexican tenor as Nemorino, one of his signature roles. A seasoned interpreter of L’elisir, Rolando follows in the footsteps of other great actor-directors, such as Brigitte Fassbaender, as he brings Donizetti’s charming operatic comedy to life.

As the love-struck Nemorino, Rolando sings opposite the dazzling Swedish soprano Miah Persson, who portrays the humble peasant’s darling, Adina. Pablo Heras-Casado will conduct the Balthasar Neumann Choir and Ensemble in performances on May 28 & 31 and June 3. This is the first time that Rolando has both sung and staged an opera. Rolando made his directorial debut at the Opéra de Lyon with Massenet’s Werther.
