Rolando Villazón directs Don Pasquale for Deutsche Oper am Rhein
Following acclaimed productions of L’elisir d’amore and La rondine, Rolando Villazón once again resumes the role of director for Don Pasquale, opening this month at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. The star tenor helms Donizetti’s madcap romantic comedy in Düsseldorf alongside conductor Nicholas Carter, with sets by Johannes Leiacker, costumes by Thibault Vancraenenbroeck, and lighting by Davy Cunningham.
Lucio Gallo and Thorsten Grümbel trade off in the title role, with Dmitri Vargin as Malatesta, Ioan Hotea as Ernesto, and Elena Sancho Pereg as Norina. The production marks Rolando’s sixth as a director, opens on April 29 at Opernhaus Düsseldorf, and continues on May 3, 6, 10, 13, 19, 21, 26, and 28 and June 3.
