Rolando Villazón named Ambassador of the Mozarteum Foundation in Salzburg

On the eve of the composer’s 261st anniversary, the Mozarteum has named Rolando Villazón an Ambassador of the Salzburg-based foundation.

Mozartwoche director Maren Hofmeister announced that the star tenor and acclaimed Mozart interpreter will serve as bridge between the Mozarteum and the world beginning this March.

Among numerous national and international initiatives that will highlight Rolando’s passion for the Salzburg-born composer is the 2018 Mozartwoche, curated by Rolando and focusing on the relationship between Constanze and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This will be highlighted by a new production of Die Entführung aus dem Serail, conducted by René Jacobs, and staged by Andrea Moses.

In a press conference held in Salzburg this afternoon, Rolando said of his connection with Mozart: “Listening to Mozart leads us to the mysteriously clear soul of the music itself and opens doors, wounds, and paths in our own complex human soul. It is the greatest honor for me to be a Mozart ambassador and thus to have the pleasure of bringing the life and work, the deep, grand and sparkling world of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart closer to others.”
