Rolando Villazón named Artistic Director of Salzburg Mozart Week
Rolando Villazón has been named the new Artistic Director of the Salzburg Mozart Week, beginning his tenure on July 1, 2017. Rolando fully programs his first Mozart Week in 2019, and directs four more festivals through 2023.
This announcement highlights Rolando’s demonstrated passion to the life and works of Mozart, a complement to his position as the Mozarteum’s Mozart Ambassador.
“Wolfgang Amadé Mozart is one of the dearest friends of humanity as a whole. No other composer is so equally admired and beloved. I feel joyful, honored and grateful to assume the enormous responsibility of serving the great Master as the new Artistic Director of the most renowned Mozart festival in the world, the Mozart Week. That this happens in Salzburg, Mozart’s birthplace and the city that has had such a wonderful impact on my life and career makes this adventure even more special. Viva Mozart!”
Mozart Week has taken place annually since 1956 around the composer’s birthday, on January 27. For the festival, the Mozarteum Foundation assembles the world’s best ensembles and soloists in the name of their mission to constantly develop and present exciting, accessible experiences of the composer’s life and works.
