Rolando Villazón tours Japan with Royal Opera House
Following his house-role debut as Don Ottavio in London earlier this summer, for which he was praised of performing “with such dramatic intensity that he seemed to raise the importance of the role from hapless husband-to-be to major player in the drama” (Express), Rolando Villazón returns to the Royal Opera House’s production of Don Giovanni on the company’s tour to Japan.
Opposite Ildebrando D’Arcangelo in the title role, Alex Esposito as Leporello, Albina Shagimuratova as Donna Anna, and Joyce DiDonato as Donna Elvira, Rolando gives three performances as Don Ottavio at Tokyo’s NHK Hall (September 13, 17, and 20) and one at Nishinomiya’s Hyogo Performing Arts Center (September 23). ROH Music Director Antonio Pappano conducts Kasper Holten’s production.
Rolando is also heard as soloist in a performance of Mozart’s Requiem and concert arias with Maestro Pappano at Tokyo Bunka Kaikan on September 19.
