Rolando’s Verdi tour reaches milestone with over 12,500 listeners, London concert

Having reached over 12,500 listeners to date, Rolando Villazón’s 15-city Verdi tour wraps up its first leg today with a concert at London’s Southbank Centre. Rolando has presented his program in celebration of Verdi’s bicentennial in sold-out concerts across Europe in cities that have included Hamburg, Paris, Prague, Berlin, Aix-en- Provence, and most recently, Vienna, where the concert was met with praise from critics and the public alike.  Austrian Press Agency praised him as the “ideal Verdi-performer,” stating he was in absolute “top form.” Oesterreich singled out his “exceptional talent in story-telling and emotional expression.”

A Verdi ambassador for the Deutsche Grammophon label, Rolando has released the critically acclaimed album Villazón Verdi, a personal journey through some of the composer’s greatest and most popular arias, alongside lesser known arias and songs, all taken from one of the richest oeuvres in operatic history. Rolando has also chosen some of his favorite Verdi tracks – “wonderful arias, great choruses, and popular tunes” – sung by some of the greatest names of the past and present for Viva Verdi!, a new collection recently released by Deutsche Grammophon. Get it here.
