Staatskapelle Berlin concerts see European Premiere of Elliott Carter’s A Sunbeam’s Architecture

On April 8 and 9, Rolando Villazón joins Daniel Barenboim and the Staatskapelle Berlin for the European premiere of Elliott Carter’s A Sunbeam’s Architecture. The program frames the music of the late American composer with that of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Based on poems by E.E. Cummings, Carter’s song cycle for tenor and orchestra was, as the composer said himself, “made to show the poet in a period when the telephone was still a novelty and the First World War (1914-1919) was raging.”

Rolando’s appearance with the Staatskapelle Berlin and Daniel Barenboim will also include performances of Mozart’s “Per pieta, non ricercate” and “Or che il dover – Tali e cotanti sono.” More details here.
