Verdi ambassador Rolando Villazón wraps up landmark 15-city tour
With his debut performance at Barcelona’s Palau de la Música this evening, Rolando Villazón brings his landmark, 15-city Verdi tour to a close, having reached over 25,000 listeners and garnering critical acclaim as the “ideal Verdi performer” (Austrian Press Agency) and “still the most charming of today’s divos” (The Times). Joined on tour by conductor Guerassim Voronkov and the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, a Rolando in “top form” (Austrian Press Agency) sang arias and orchestrated songs by the great opera composer in Hamburg, Paris, Frankfurt, Geneva, Aix-en-Provence, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, London, Amsterdam, Stuttgart, Nuremberg, Baden-Baden, and Toulouse. Met with standing ovations in every city and over 3,000 fans at post-performance signings, the Verdi tour has been a triumph among critics and audiences alike.
A Verdi ambassador for the Deutsche Grammophon label, Rolando has not only released an acclaimed Villazon Verdi album and a collection of his favorite Verdi tracks, but has also appeared in the media as one of the most visible and compelling advocates for the composers’ music. In addition to interviews and performances on ZDF, NDR, SWR, and ARD, as well as profiles in Lufthansa, Gala, GQ España, and Classic FM magazines, Rolando was also featured as host of ZDF’s Aida broadcast from the Arena di Verona’s as well as BBC’s feature-length documentary The Genius of Verdi.
