Verdi Romances with Wiener Symphoniker, Staatskapelle Berlin
Mar 13, 2013
Fresh from his Vienna State Opera performances in La traviata, Rolando Villazón continues his celebration of Giuseppe Verdi’s music this month as he appears with the Wiener Symphoniker (March 19, 20, 21) and the Staatskapelle Berlin (March 26), singing selections from Berio’s arrangement of Verdi’s Eight Romances for Tenor and Orchestra. Berio considered his adaptations of the master opera composer’s music as “a respectful and subtle web of musical references which comments… on the relationship of Verdi’s language, style and manner with time as it passes.”
You can catch Rolando’s performances with Maestro Fabio Luisi and the Wiener Symphoniker
at Vienna’s Musikverein March 19, 20, and 21 and his concert with Maestro Daniel Barenboim and the Staatskapelle Berlin
on March 26 at Berlin’s Philharmonie.
Verdi’s music has been at the heart of Rolando’s music-making this season. Last fall, the Mexican French tenor released Villazón Verdi
, an acclaimed Deutsche Grammophon album of arias and songs spanning the composer’s career. Starting next month, Rolando embarks on a landmark 15-city European tour, singing Verdi’s music in Hamburg (April 19), Paris (April 22), Frankfurt (April 25), Geneva (April 29), Aix-en-Provence (May 2), Berlin (May 5), Prague (May 8), Vienna (May 12), London (May 15), Amsterdam (June 12), Stuttgart (June 15), Nuremberg (June 18), Baden-Baden (June 21), Toulouse (June 24) and Barcelona (June 27).
