Following a highly-anticipated return to the Metropolitan Opera House as Papageno in Julie Taymor’s production of The Magic Flute, Rolando Villazón launches into 2022 with performances of Serenata Latina, an exciting musical celebration of the tenor’s 50th birthday, and more recitals across Europe.

On January 19, Rolando joins harpist Xavier de Maistre at Elbphilharmonie Hamburg for Serenata Latina, an evening of Latin American art songs featuring works by Silvio Rodriguez, Alberto Ginastera, Carlos Guastavino, and more. The pair return to the program later in the spring, performing on March 11 (Graz), March 19 (Freiburg), and March 29 (Stuttgart).

Next, on February 21, Rolando joins a festive gala celebration of his 50th birthday, featuring many musical friends including Daniel Barenboim, Plácido Domingo, Regula Mühlemann, Charles Castronovo, Fatma Said, Magdalena Kožená, Michael Volle and more. Giedrė Šlekytė conducts the Camerata Salzburg in a performance of works by Mozart, as well as popular works from the worlds of opera, operetta, and zarzuela. Barbara Rett hosts the event, which will be held as a benefit for the International Mozarteum Foundation.

Later, on March 4, Rolando shares the stage with Christina Pluhar and Ensemble L’Arpeggiata for a program of early music at Müpa Budapest. The program highlights the masters of Italian Baroque music, including Monteverdi, Cavalieri, Caccini, Rossi, and more.

On March 11, Rolando will dive into a special musical world with the French harpist Xavier de Maistre. The duo will present traditional folk and art songs from Latin America, by composers such as Alberto Ginastera and Zequinha de Abreu, which are characterized by much feeling and intimacy.
