Pelléas et Mélisande at Staatsoper unter den Linden

On May 25, Rolando Villazón returns to Staatsoper unter den Linden in Ruth Berghaus’s groundbreaking production of Pelléas et Mélisande.

Based on the drama by Flemish symbolist Maurice Maeterlinck, the opera tells the tragic tale of the love triangle between half-brothers Golaud and Pelléas and the mysterious Mélisande. Debussy’s enigmatic music emphasizes the depths of the character’s psyches, exploring the subliminal desires of each character.

Conducted by Maxime Pascal, the production also features Wolfgang Schöne (Arkel), Luca Pisaroni (Golaud), Marianne Crebassa (Mélisande), Katharina Kammerloher (Geneviève), and David Oštrek (Arzt, Hirte).

Performances continue May 29, June 1 and 7.
