Rolando Makes His Directing Debut at Semperoper Dresden

This April, Rolando Villazón makes his directing debut at Semperoper Dresden, directing Jean-Philippe Rameau’s ballet opera Platée. One of the most unusual works of music theatre from the 18th century, Platée presents the mythological tale of an ugly nymph whose yearning for love is mercilessly mocked by Jupiter and the other gods.

The production includes Mark Milhofer (Thespis/Mercure), Sebastian Wartig (Momus), Iulia Maria Dan (Thalie/Clarine), Tania Lorenzo (Amour), Philippe Talbot (Platée), Giorgio Caoduro (Cithéron/Satyr), Andreas Wolf (Jupiter), Ute Selbig (Junon), and Inga Kalna (La Folie), with choreography by Philippe Giraudeau. Paul Agnew conducts the Sächsischer Staatsopernchor Dresden and Sächsischer Staatskapelle Dresden.

Performances run April 6, 11, 16, 23, and 29, 2019.
