‘La Sonnambula’ at The Metropolitan Opera
Rolando Villazón returns to The Metropolitan Opera, this time acting as stage director for Bellini’s bel canto masterpiece, La Sonnambula. A co-production of The Met, Opéra de Nice Côte d’Azur, Semperoper Dresden, and Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Villazón’s thoughtful vision retains the La Sonnambula’s original setting in the Swiss Alps, but uses its sleepwalking plot to explore the opera’s deeper emotional and psychological themes. This thrilling new production will be streamed live in cinemas on October 18, as part of The Met’s Live in HD series.
Villazón directs an all-star cast, singing under the baton of Riccardo Frizza. Nadine Sierra performs the title role, with Xabier Anduaga as Elvino, Sydney Mancasola as Lisa, and Alexander Vinogradov as Rodolfo. La Sonnambula plays October 6—November 1.
